11월 미국 중간선거를 앞두고 유가 상승 압박을 받는 도널드 트럼프 미국 대통령이 우크라이나에 러시아 석유 시설 공격을 멈추라고 압박했다.

에이피(AP) 통신 등 보도를 보면, 13일(현지시각) 트럼프 대통령은 자신의 가족 기업 소유인 아일랜드 서부의 한 골프장에서 열린 골프 대회를 참관하는 중 기자들에게 “우리는 젤렌스키 대통령과 이야기를 나눴다. 다른 목표물이 많이 있으니 경유 연료는 타격하지 말라”고 촉구했다며 경유 시설 공격으로 인한 연료 부족이 “전 세계에 피해를 주고 있다”고 말했다.

트럼프 대통령은 세계적인 연료 부족 현상이 “중동 때문이 아니라 러시아와 우크라이나에서 벌어지는 일 때문에 발생한 것”이라고 강변했다. 자신이 일으킨 이란 전쟁 때문에 유가가 오르는 것이 아니라 우크라이나 전쟁 때문이라며 유가 상승의 책임을 돌린 것이다.

미국에서 경유 소비자 가격은 지난 10일 갤런 당 6달러를 넘으면서 역대 최고치를 보이고 있다. 최근 몇 달간 우크라이나가 러시아 정유 공장에 가한 대규모 장거리 드론 공격으로 인해 러시아의 석유 생산량이 감소했고, 러시아 전역에서 휘발류 등의 부족 현상이 촉발됐다. 러시아는 전쟁 여파로 올해 석유 생산량 전망치를 17년 만에 최저 수준으로 하향 조정했으며 올해와 내년 연료 수출 전망
